The Metropolitan Museum Teen Internship Program

This week’s opportunity post is about an internship that multiple of the website’s authors have been lucky enough to take part in. The Teen internship program at the Metropolitan Museum (often referred to as the met teens) is an art education internship, that pairs teens with “mentors” in the museum. During your five months with your mentor, who is an adult employee at the met, you get the opportunity to learn more about their career, the museum, and other careers in the arts. Mentors range from educators, like Jeary Payne who did the video for this week’s instagram post, to scientists at the art conservation lab, and curators from different departments in the museum. In the application you rank the different options and get paired to the best fit at the beginning of the program.

This is a PAID internship, and it also presents a lot of valuable work experience alongside the paid benefit. Through career labs you will get the chance to meet a wide range of artists and other professionals in the arts world, and you’ll get to learn about how to network and make professional connections. There are also a variety of events that every intern contributes to, like the biannual Teens Take the Met event which typically takes place at the end of the internship in late May. To learn more about this opportunity, go to the Met website or check out our latest instagram post! The application will go live in a couple of weeks!
